Today’s inspiring guest on Freedom Hunters is Emily Johnston, blogger, columnist and digital content creator. Originally from South Carolina in the US, Emily moved to London straight out of university to pursue her dream of forging a career in the art world. Early on, she found a role at an art auction house and worked her way there into a PR role for the auction house.
But it was when she started her fashion industry news blog in her spare time, that life started to change for Emily.
In this episode of Freedom Hunters, I talk to Emily about how she transitioned from her corporate PR role to her current career which has involved the continued evolution of her hugely successful fashion and lifestyle blog, Fashion Foie Gras. Not only that, she’s had a column in Hello magazine, hosts fashion and beauty events and has worked on collaborations with fashion brands such as Coach and Ralph Lauren.
Emily shares with me the challenges of going freelance, how she stays true to herself on social media and how she developed her personal brand. We also get into whether the body positivity movement has gone too far, something that Emily has some fascinating insights into.
It was such a pleasure to talk to Emily. She is just as she is on her blog and Instagram account, disarmingly friendly, open, positive and very frank. If you want to see real change in the fashion industry and true authenticity on social media, then follow her on Instagram @emilyjanejohnston. She truly is an authentic person in a world that is often criticized as artificial. I hope you enjoy the episode.
